There are many ways to ensure high-quality health care for future generations in Huron. Here are just a few practical examples:
Cash Donations - If you itemize, your outright gifts of cash are fully deductible for federal income tax purposes up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income. If your total gifts should exceed this limitation, the excess may be carried forward for tax purposes for up to five additional years.
Online Donations - Online donations are a convenient and easy way to to invest in the future of health care in your own community. Available to you 24 hours a day, seven days a week, online donations can be made either by a credit card, debit card, checking account or savings account.
Memorials - A perfect way to honor the memory of a loved one, these gifts are also fully deductible for federal income tax purposes.
Life Insurance - If you own a life insurance policy that is no longer needed, consider it as the perfect vehicle for a charitable gift. Or, list the HRMC Foundation as the beneficiary.
Bequests - Consider long-term tax savings, the federal estate tax can still take approximately 50 percent of one's estate at the time of death. That's a higher tax bite than the income tax! Do some advance planning with your professional advisor about a bequest.
Gift Annuity or Deferred Gift Annuity - Invest in an annuity that provides you a tax deduction and provides interest income for the rest of your life. Click here to calculate your potential gift. Ask your tax or investment advisor for more information.
As donors reach gift-giving levels, they are recognized on the Donor Recognition Wall located just inside the Main Hospital building. Donors are also recognized in the Foundation's annual report newsletter.
HRMC Foundation Scholarship Program
The HRMC Foundation scholarship program began in 2005 with the creation of a single $1,000 nursing scholarship designed to help promote nursing education at the Dakota Wesleyan University-Huron site program.
The HRMC Foundation is offering up to $10,000 in scholarships to promote careers in healthcare in the Huron area. The purpose of the HRMC Foundation Scholarship Program is to provide financial support to individuals who are pursuing a career in a health field while ensuring that the Huron area continues to have quality, dedicated healthcare staff.
Students of all ages, pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees, are encouraged to apply and learn more about the lifelong benefits of a future in health care. Applicants must have completed at least one year of college-level coursework in a health-related degree or certification program and have a "C" or better grade-point average. Preference will be given to applicants who indicate financial need and plan to seek employment or continue their employment in the Huron, South Dakota area after graduation.
The HRMC Foundation hosts several special events throughout the year to allow donors a relaxing and fun opportunity to learn more about the work of the Foundation, while investing in the future of health care.
Papa Luigi - Typically held late winter or early spring, this fun-filled dinner allows guests to travel to exotic venues such as Margaritaville, Texas/Mexico border, Hawaii, Hollywood, Italy, Merry Old England and Ireland – without leaving the comfort of Huron! Celebrity guest hosts spice up the night with colorful and imaginative costumes and antics to coax tips from the diners. Always a good time for all involved, the 2013 event raised more than $27,000 for purchase of birthing beds for the obstetrics unit, which is located on the third floor of the hospital.
