HRMC accepts all insurances – none are refused. The experienced staff in the business office are here to help with filing insurance, medicare and medicaid claims, attempting to make the business end of your hospital experience easier for you and your family.

Patient Preregistration - once you are scheduled for a diagnostic test, surgery or a hospital stay, a member of our admissions staff will contact you prior to your scheduled appointment to gather some information to make check-in easier. Typically, you will be called the day or evening before your scheduled appointment. The admission staff also will provide helpful information to assist you in preparing for your hospital visit. For your convenience, you can preregister online.
Admissions - upon arriving at HRMC, we ask that you stop by the admissions office located just to your left when you enter the main hospital lobby (see map). Admission staff will verify your information, make copies of your insurance cards and provide directions to your appointment. For your convenience, the admission desks are staffed from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Patient Billing - as a courtesy to our patients, HRMC will file all necessary third-party payor claims once the information has been provided to us. HRMC has signed preferred provider contracts with the following insurance carriers:

If you do not see your network here, please call to verify status or inquire about the possibility of adding.
Once you have been discharged, you will receive an initial statement that includes a summary of your charges.
After third-party payment has either been received or denied (see Insurance Claims for more information on denials), HRMC will then send you a statement of your payment responsibilities. For your convenience, payments or payment arrangements may be made:
Online via HRMC's Make a Payment online service with a checking or savings account, debit card or credit card – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In person with cash, check, debit card or credit card during regular business hours at the cashier window in the main hospital lobby (see map).

Monthly payment options based on the payment schedule below. Auto bank or credit card draft is available, for your convenience.
HRMC Monthly Payment Schedule - Unpaid balances will assess interest charges equal to 10 percent annually (0.83 percent monthly) on all account balances after ninety (90) days from the date of discharge. All monthly payment plans are assessed interest.

NOTE: You may receive a bill for services performed by your surgeon, Dr. Jim Schwaiger (radiologist) or Huron Pathology Limited (tissue testing), in addition to your HRMC bill. Billing questions for these entities should be addressed to the contact information included in the billing statement.
Insurance Claims - HRMC's business office staff works as a patient advocate with insurance companies to ensure claims are processed and paid in a timely manner. Our knowledgeable staff helps you weed through the often-confusing claims and denial process. Charity Care Forgiveness - HRMC grants charity care adjustments to patients who apply and qualify according to the following criteria:
The family (any group living together as one economic unit) meets poverty guidelines as published by the Federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). 2004 guidelines are:

Application for State of residence and/or County of residence assistance must be made, if eligibility for such State or County assistance exists in the judgment of HRMC business office staff. Charity care adjustments are the last resort in satisfying a patient's account, and cannot be applied in lieu of governmental assistance programs.
Charity care assistance may be denied for patients who: are indigent by design as defined by SDCL 28-13-27, fail to preauthorize care with the county after being advised they must do so, or have adjusted resources/assets in excess of the hospital bill amount as determined by SDCL 28-13-32.8.
If charity care assistance appears appropriate, charity care adjustments will then be made as follows:
