A physician's diagnosis and treatment can rely heavily on the outcome of a clinical lab test. HRMC's laboratory department provides 24-hour quality lab services to inpatients, outpatients and physicians.
HRMC's laboratory services are performed by certified technicians supported by modern technology. The laboratory/pathology team represents more than 290 years of health care experience, and is certified by the CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) program.

From confirming a doctor's diagnosis of influenza or strep throat to pregnancy tests and cancer indicators, the staff provides routine and specialized analysis of blood, body fluids and tissues.
HRMC's laboratory departments include chemistry, hematology for blood analysis, urinalysis, coagulation for blood clotting factors, therapeutic drug monitoring, serology for viral and bacterial testing and microbiology. The lab further provides services including histology/surgical pathology for diagnosis of tissue disease, fine needle aspiration and non-gynecological cytology for diagnosis of disease in the cells, and bone marrow aspiration and biopsy for abnormalities of the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. The HRMC laboratory also functions as a blood bank and blood donor center.
An order from your personal physician must be obtained for all laboratory procedures. Common lab tests performed at HRMC include the following:
Cholesterol - testing is different from most tests in that it is not used to diagnose or monitor a disease but is used to estimate risk of developing a disease – specifically heart disease.
Triglycerides - blood tests are usually part of a lipid profile used to identify the risk of developing heart disease
HDL - cholesterol testing is used to determine your risk of heart disease.
PSA - blood screen is used as a prostate cancer indicator.
Glucose - testing is most commonly used to diagnose and manage diabetes.
Urinalysis - testing is performed on a fresh urine specimen and is checked for pH, protein, glucose, bilirubin, and presence of white blood cells or red blood cells.
HRMC also offers follow-up testing for patients who are being treated at another facility but require frequent lab testing. Our technicians will work with other facilities to provide you with convenient service and a quick response.
To help you better understand the many clinical lab tests that are part of routine care as well as diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of conditions and diseases, the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) has developed a Web site, www.labtestsonline.org, to educate the public.
